Status of research into corrosion-related crack growth in low-alloy ferritic steels in oxygeneous high-temperature water

Description
Corrosion investigations into the low alloy, ferritic fine grain structural steels 20 MnMoNi 5 5 and 22 NiMoCr 3 7 have been undertaken under constant external load in boiling water reactor-typical, oxygenous high-temperature water. The aforementioned steels were those preferred for the manufacture of pressure vessels and pipework for power plant engineering. The paper presents the results of the corrosion tests in association with fractographic analyses of fracture areas and observations of polished central plane surfaces. (orig.)
Abstract (German)
Korrosionsuntersuchungen an den niedriglegierten, ferritischen Feinkornbaustaehlen 20 MnMoNi 5 5 und 22 NiMoCr 3 7 wurden unter konstanter aeusserer Last in SWR-typischem, sauerstoffhaltigem Hochtemperaturwasser durchgefuehrt. Die genannten Staehle werden bevorzugt zur Herstellung von Druckbehaeltern und Rohrleitungen in der Kraftwerkstechnik eingesetzt. Die Ergebnisse der Korrosionsversuche in Verbindung mit fraktographischen Auswertungen der Bruchflaeche sowie Beobachtungen an polierten Mittelebenenschliffen werden vorgestellt.
