Advantages of GIS in large scale sampling of agricultural and food products during nuclear emergency
- 1. Health Physics Division, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai (India)
- 2. Radiation Safety Systems Division, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai (India)
Description
India has an agriculture dependent economic system and is one of the major suppliers of agricultural produces in the world market. During a very rarely probable nuclear emergency, a large area around the power plant may get contaminated for a longer period due to the release of radionuclides. Controlling the consumption of foodstuff, consequent to such an accident, is one of the counter measures adopted. Interest of the market also should be considered while taking a decision on ban/control/regulate consumption of food products
