Female pelvic anatomy: magnetic resonance study

Description
The potential of magnetic resonance imaging was evaluated in this study. Conventional imaging methods like sonography and X-ray computerised tomography generally provide accurate data. Magnetic resonance imaging appears to be very suitable for studying the pelvis because it has the capacity to produce direct multidirectional images. By recording alterations in T1 and T2 values, it provides a wide range of information. A 1.5 T imaging system was used. Pulse sequences used always included T1 and T2 weighted spin-echo scans. The T2 scan was performed in the best plane for the organ of interest. The comparison between these different acquisitions provides good tissue differentiation. Results of 73 studies are exposed
Abstract (French)
Nous avons procede a une evaluation des performances de l'IRM dans l'etude du pelvis. Les methodes d'imagerie conventionnelles telles que l'echographie et la tomodensitometrie permettent generalement un bilan satisfaisant. L'IRM presente l'avantage d'acquerir directement des images dans les trois plans de l'espace et, du fait du nombre de parametres tissulaires intervenant dans la constitution d'une image, fournit des informations plus riches. L'etude a ete realisee sur un appareil de 1,5 Tesla avec une antenne corps entier. D'une facon systematique deux types de sequences ont ete acquis apres une sequence courte de reperage realisee generalement sous incidence axiale: une sequence ponderee en T1 et une sequence ponderee en T2, cette derniere etant acquise dans un plan d'incidence optimal pour l'organe etudie. La confrontation de ces deux types de contraste permet une bonne differenciation des tissus. Les resultats de l'exploration de 73 pelvis feminins sont rapportesAdditional details
