Description
The decay of mass-separated 116Cs has been investigated at the ISOLDE facility following spallation reactions induced by 3He of 910 MeV. Half-life measurements have been performed. It has been found that the short-lived isomer (Tsub(1/2) = 0.72 s) populates mainly the first 2+116Xe level, whereas the state with Tsub(1/2) = 4.1 s must have a high spin (J >= 4). A scheme of 116Xe including levels of the quasi-ground-state, quasi-gamma and quasi-beta bands, has been established. The level structure of 116Xe is discussed in the framework of light even xenon systematics. (orig.)
