Low-temperature radiolysis of aliphatic sulfides. Chapter 3
Description
Consideration is given to the radical products of the low-temperature radiolysis of dimethyl sulphide, diethyl sulphide, dibutyl-, diamyl- and diheptyl sulphides, didecyl-and didocyl sulphides. Comparison of experimental data of the aliphatic sulphides low-temperature radiolysis in an individual state suggests that common to all the sulphides under study is the separation of an atom from the alkyl chain, the yield of the resultant radicals being dependent on the length of the hydrocarbon chain. Study of the stable products of the low-temperature radiolysis of dialkyl sulphides was conducted under the same conditions as those for the radical products. Values of the radiation chemical yield of paramagnetic centres (PMC) were obtained. Based on these data one can clearly see that the limiting yield of the PMC is two times that of the molecular hydrogen, which points to an agreement between the radical and stable products of the aliphatic sulphide radiolysis
