Annual report of the Japan Atomic Energy Research Institute, for fiscal 1983

Description

In fiscal 1983, emphasis was placed on the research of safety, the research and development of a multipurpose high temperature gas-cooled reactor and the research and development of nuclear fusion. As for the research concerning safety, the verifying tests on the reliability of piping, the effect of large reflooding and the safety in the case of exhaust filter accident in a reprocessing facility, the maintenance of the rapid power increase testing facility for high performance fuel, the preparation of the critical safety analysis data program and others were carried out. As to the research and development of a multipurpose high temperature gas-cooled reactor, the detailed design of an experimental reactor was completed. In the development of high temperature equipment with the HENDEL, the heat transfer and flow test of simulated fuel rods and the characteristic test of high temperature piping were carried out. The related research on the reactor physics was conducted. As to the critical plasma testing facility JT-60 which is the center of the basic plan of the second stage research and development of nuclear fusion, the installation, adjustment and functional test advanced smoothly, and the completion is expected in April, 1985. The outline of activities and the contents of works are reported. (Kako, I.)
