Ultra cold neutron facility at KUR with supermirror turbine
- 1. Kyoto Univ., Kumatori, Osaka (Japan). Research Reactor Inst.
Description
Ultra Cold Neutrons (UCN) with the velocity below about 10 m/s can be used for fundamental physics experiments with neutron bottles and for condensed matter research with high resolution neutron spectrometers. A new type of UCN source facility has been constructed at KUR, and after several performance tests it is now opened for practical uses of UCN experiments. The facility consists of a neutron turbine with supermirror blades and a double-bent guide tube assembly for feeding incident VCN (Very Cold Neutrons) to the turbine, and accompanied also by a computer controlled on-line data handling system with a two-dimensional (time and pulse height) multi-channel analyser. The turbine has two independent UCN exit ports for simultaneous uses of different kinds of experiments. The present UCN output intensity is about 1 UCN/s (v <= 6.7 m/s), and it will be further increased in near future. (author)
