Sequential separation of hafnium, zirconium and niobium from sulphuric acid medium using di(2-ethylhexyl) phosphoric acid as an extractant

  • 1. Saha Inst. of Nuclear Physics, Calcutta (India)

Description

A simple solvent procedure for sequential separation of hafnium, zirconium and niobium in aqueous solution using di(2-ethylhexyl) phosphoric acid (HDEHP) as an extractant has been developed. The elements concerned were quantitatively extracted from aqueous sulphuric acid medium with HDEHP reagent in stages under different experimental conditions. The method described was specifically applied to radiotracers, sup(175,181)Hf, 95Zr and 95Nb without resorting to carrier materials. The reliability of the method of separation has been verified further by taking recourse to γ-ray spectrometry. (author)
