Description

The paper describes a simple distillation method for the determination of 129? by liquid scintillation spectrometry. The chemical yields of separation by gravimetric determination of iodine as PdI2-H2O were determined. For testing of the method a suitable apparatus for distillation of iodine was designed. The optimum conditions for the effective distillation of iodine was nitric acid in concentration range of (1 - 2) mol·dm3 with 0.4 g of NaNO2 as iodide oxidizing agent (I- -> I2). The optimum time for coagulation of PdI2-H2O precipitate was 24 hours and distillation time was only 20 minutes. Optimized method for the determination of 129I for real samples from nuclear power plant V1 in Jaslovske Bohunice was applied. 129I by liquid scintillation counter TriCarb 3100TR with high detection efficiency (95 %) was measured.
