Influence Of Heat Treatment And Cooling Media On Mechanical Characteristics Of Fuel Element Cladding Material Of Multipurpose Reactor G.A. Siwabessy

Description

Effect of heat treatment at 85-500oC for 3-12 hours than cooled immediately by water, Sands or air on mechanical characteristics, i.e., tensile strength, elongation, elastics modulus and hardness of fuel element cladding material of Multipurpose Reactor G.A. Siwabessy, A1Mg2, has been carried out. The experiments showed that the heat treatment at 85 - 300oC for 6 hours using water, sands or air as cooling media caused the decreasing of Ultimate Tensile Strength (UTS) from initial condition 234.09 N/mm2 to 170/mm2 and after 300oC its decreased to 144,22 N/mm2, 130,3 N/mm2 and 99,58 N/mm2 respectively. For water, sand on air cooling media at the temperature range of 28 to 200oC, the elongation increased from 19,32 to 27,88 %, than increased quickly to 49,77 % at 300oC and at 500oC decreased to 35.95 %, 31,55 % and 12.62 % respectively. The hardness test showed that the heat treatment at 85 to 300oC for 3 hours decreased the hardness of A1Mg2 from 69 to 43 kg/mm2, 6 hours decreased from 58 ro 43 kg/mm2 and for 12 hours decreased from 70 to 42.5 kg/mm2. The lowest hardness was obtained at heat treatment condition of 500oC for 3 hours, in air cooling media I.e., 39.2 kg/mm2. The cooling media, water, sands or air did not influence significantly at heating temperature of 85 to 300oC
