Estimated carbon footprint from 1995 to 2019
Description
In 2019, the carbon footprint is estimated at 663 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent (Mt CO2 eq), a level close to that of 2016. Emissions associated with imports account for just over half (54%) of the footprint. Since 1995, France's carbon footprint has increased by 7%. Domestic emissions fell significantly between 1995 and 2019 (-25%), while emissions associated with imports rose sharply (+72%). In 2019, the carbon footprint per person would be slightly below 10 tCO2 eq. Given the increase in population, the evolution of the carbon footprint relative to the number of inhabitants decreased slightly (-5%) between 1995 (10.4 tCO2 eq/person) and 2019 (9.9 tCO2 eq/person). In 2019, the carbon footprint would be 74% CO2, 20% CH4 and 6% NO2

En 2019, l'empreinte carbone est estimee a 663 millions de tonnes equivalent CO2 (Mt CO2 eq), un niveau proche de celui de 2016. Les emissions associees aux importations representent un peu plus de la moitie (54 %) de l'empreinte. Depuis 1995, l'empreinte carbone de la France a augmente de 7 %. Les emissions interieures ont sensiblement diminue entre 1995 et 2019 (- 25 %) tandis les emissions associees aux importations se sont nettement accrues (+ 72 %). En 2019, l'empreinte carbone par personne serait legerement inferieure a 10 tCO2 eq. Compte tenu de l'augmentation de la population, l'evolution de l'empreinte carbone rapportee au nombre d'habitants diminue legerement (- 5 %) entre 1995 (10,4 tCO2 eq/personne) et 2019 (9,9 tCO2 eq/personne). En 2019, l'empreinte carbone serait composee pour 74 % de CO2, 20 % de CH4 et 6 % de NO2
