Predictions of the earth's geomagnetic activity

Almost one quarter of the earth's auroral zone is in Canada. The Division of Geomagnetism of the Canadian Department of Energy, Mines and Resources operates a network of 11 magnetic observatories and a number of variation stations across the country. Every three weeks forecasts of geomagnetic activity are issued covering the next 27 days, and from May to September a 72-hour forecast is available by telephone. These predictions are used by nearly 150 organizations involved in exploration or transportation in the Artic. (LL)
