Petrochemical and geochemical studies of granitic rocks from gebel gattar area, eastern desert, egypt
Description
The granitic pluton of Gebel gattar which includes in places uraniferous mineralized zones, is shown to have originated from a peraluminous calc-alkaline magma with some alkaline affinities. The trace elements geochemistry indicates magma generation in a within-plate (anorogenic) tectonic setting. The concentrations of U is high enough to consider the gattar granite as uraniferous granite. The enrichment of U at the expense of Th is also accompanied by enrichment in Rb, Ba, Y, Nb, and Zr. This usually takes place during the late stage of magmatic activity in an aqueous phase
