Safety Features of the TerraPower Traveling Wave Reactor
Creators
Description
• TWR features we plan to retain: – Extremely robust safety and small emergency planning zone; – High readiness SFR technology; – High endurance fuels and materials; – Zero reprocessing; – These represent the large majority of investment in TWR technology. TWR features we are willing to be flexible on now to lower plant costs: – Large breed and burn cores; – Fuels requiring fission gas venting; • New features we are studying: – Thermal salt energy storage; – Salt heat transfer to industrial processes
