Comparative account of mutagenic efficiency of physical and chemicalmutagens in mung bean (Phaseolus aureus Roxb.)
Description
The present investigation is an attempt to study the mutagenic efficiency of gamma rays, ethyl methane sulphonate (EMS) and hydrazine hydrate (HZ) in the var, PS-16 of mung bean (Phaseolus aureus Roxb.). Mutagenic efficiency as measured by the percentage of mutated families divided by either injury, sterility and lethality was higher at the lower doses of mutagens used. The mutation rate enhanced in the combination treatments of EMS and HZ with gamma rays. Gamma rays were found to be more efficient than EMS and HZ for the seedling injury and seed sterility. Whereas HZ was more efficient than EMS and gamma rays for lethality. (author)
