Interaction of volatile chlorides with metal structural materials
Description
The literature data on kinetics and mechanism of volatile chlorides (including VCl4, VOCl3, NbCl5+TaCl5) interaction with metal materials are given. The main stages of the process are considered as well as the conditions under which any of the stages limits the reaction rate. It is shown that the most resistant are the metals which form at the contact with a liquid or gaseous chloride a continuous nonvolatile film of interaction product which has a crystal chemistry similarity with the material and is poorly soluble in the given chloride medium
