Conference report. Time to come out of the greenhouse?

The value of a nuclear component within a sustainable energy scheme was discussed by several speakers at the Annual Symposium of the Uranium Institute in 1997. Aspects discussed by the various speakers were: sustainable development, technology tomorrow, competition and deregulation, uranium sources, in situ leach technology (for extracting uranium from sandstone) and secondary sources of uranium. It was said that the nuclear power generators should present a convincing case on all fronts and, perhaps most of all, that competition is the key to nuclear's future.(UK)
