Public spending on energy research and development in 2017 - rebound in resources allocated to nuclear research
Description
In 2017, French public spending on energy research and development (R and D) amounted to Euros 973 million. Declining since 2012, this amount continues to fall in 2017, but at a slower pace, due to the construction of a new nuclear research reactor in particular. This technology utilises 53% of public funding, making it the primary area in this field, ahead of new energy technologies (33%). As a proportion of GDP, in terms of public R and D expenditure, France was in second position amongst G7 countries, behind Japan. France is distinctive due to the preponderance of nuclear, but also ranks well in energy efficiency of transport, biomass, solar and hydrogen

En 2017, les depenses publiques francaises de recherche et developpement (R et D) en energie atteignent 973 millions d'euros. En baisse depuis 2012, ce montant continue de decroitre en 2017, mais a un rythme moindre du fait notamment de la construction d'un nouveau reacteur de recherche nucleaire. Cette technologie concentre 53 % des financements publics, ce qui en fait le premier domaine en la matiere, devant les nouvelles technologies de l'energie (33 %). En part de PIB, les depenses publiques de R et D portent la France en deuxieme position des pays du G7, apres le Japon. La France se distingue par la preponderance du nucleaire, mais est egalement bien positionnee dans l'efficacite energetique des transports, la biomasse, le solaire et l'hydrogene
