Complexes of zirconium (IV) with some benzoin derivatives

  • 1. Mosul Univ. (Iraq). Coll. of Education

Description

Different type of complexes with different stoichiometries, stereochemistties and coordination numbers have been isolated for Zirconium (IV). These complexes having the general formulae [ZrO(H2L)2] C12, [Zr(H2L)2]X4, [Zr(OH)2L] and (Zr(L)2] (where H2L and L represent the neutral and dibasic forms of the ligand derived from the condensation of benzoin with o-phenylenediamine and X represents chloride, bromide and nitrate ions) were prepared by the reaction of zirconyl chloride, zirconium chloride, zircoconium brominde and zirconium nitrate in both neutral and basic media. The isolated complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, molar conductance, molecular weight, infrarced and 1H NMR spectral measurments. The ligand in these complexes acts in three different ways, neutral bi-and tetradenate and dibasic tetradenate and dibasic tetradentate. (author). 16 refs., 2 tabs
