Carbon steel protection in G.S. (Girlder sulfide) plants. Influence of the material surface state. Pt. 2

Description

The passivation on carbon steels, in particular ASTM A 516 Degree 60 and ASTM A 333 steels is made, submitting it to the action of H2S/H2O1,2 corrosive medium. The steel is rapidly corroded by H2S in aqueous solution, forming iron sulfides on the metallic surface in a crystalline layer of various μm of thickness. During this process, various types of iron sulfides at different phases, with different sulfur and iron contents are formed. The influence of temperature, the pH, the exposure time and the corrosive medium composition on formation and quality of the iron sulfides protective layer was also studied. (Author)

Abstract (Spanish)

La pasivacion sobre aceros al carbono, en particular acero ASTM A 516 grado 60 y ASTM A 333, se realiza sometiendola a la accion del medio corrosivo H2S/H2O1,2. El acero es atacado rapidamente por el H2S en solucion acuosa formando sulfuros de hierro sobre la superficie metalica en una capa cristalina de varias decenas de μm de espesor. Durante el proceso se forman varios tipos de sulfuros de hierro en distintas fases, con diferentes contenidos de azufre y hierro. Se estudio la influencia de la temperatura, el pH, el tiempo de exposicion y la composicion del medio corrosivo sobre la formacion y la calidad de esa capa protectora de sulfuros de hierro. (Autor)
