Comparison of 99mTc-CTMP and 99mTc-MDP in animal model as bone imaging radiopharmaceutical

1,4,8,11-tetraaza cyclotetradecyl-1,4,8,11-tetramethylene phosphonic acid (CTMP) as new agent for bone imaging have been synthesized and complexed with 99mTc. Biodistribution of this complex in mice were carried out and the uptake in bone and other soft tissue were detailed. A comparison of the biodistribution studies of the 99mTc-CTMP with the well-established radiopharmaceutical 99mTc-MDP was carried out for the purpose of evaluating the efficacy of the radiopharmaceutical preparation. The bone up take of 99mTc-CTMP complexes is 3.57, 2.90, 4.14 and 4.39 (%ID/g) at 1, 3, 5 and 24 hours respectively was lesser than those of 99mTc-MDP which was 10.73, 10.12, 10.48, and 5.95 (%ID/g) at 1, 3, 5 and 24 hours respectively. However, due to in vivo stability 99mTc-CTMP was better than 99mTc-MDP. Then 99mTc-CTMP imaging with gamma camera gave clearer image of bone. (author)
