Improved nuclear fuel element

Description

A nuclear fuel element is described. It includes a central core of nuclear fuel and composite cladding composed of a substrate (Zr alloy), provided with a protective coating on its internal face, in a material selected from oxidation resistant alloys containing chromium, a chrome coating alloyed to the substrate, a coating containing aluminium alloyed to the substrate or a coating containing silicon alloyed to the substrate. The oxidation resistant alloy is a high chromium stainless steel
