Calculating many-body effects in resonant [(dtμ)d2e] formation
Description
A method is developed for calculating the effect of neighboring molecules on the resonant molecular formation reaction tμ + D2 → [(dtμ)d2e]*, avoiding any expansion in powers of the density. Using a simplified model, the role of collisional broadening, motional narrowing, and the interference of different formation amplitudes is examined. This model is used to generate molecular formation rates as functions of density for fixed temperature. The generalization which will allow comparison with experimental data is discussed
