Modeling the kinetics of Eu(III) extraction in diglycolamic acid anchored polyamine co-polymer

Solid-phase extraction method offers significant advantages over the conventionally used liquid-liquid extraction for metal ion separation. In the recent past, we developed a novel diglycolamic acid anchored polyamine co-polymer (PA-DGAA) for the separation of lanthanides from Am and Cm. In this paper, we studied the uptake of europium(III) from dilute nitric acid medium in PA-DGAA. It was studied as a function of various parameters. The experiment involved equilibration of PADGAA (0.2 g ) with nitric acid (100 ml) solution spiked with (152+154)Eu tracer. The solution was stirred vigorously. The percentage extraction of Eu(III) was determined by measuring the radioactivity of the aqueous aliquot taken from the aqueous phase at various intervals of time during the course of equilibration
