Study on the patency of postoperatively irradiated vascular anastomoses in the rat and their histological results
Description
The effects of fractionated irradiation on microvascular anastomoses were investigated on rat femoral arteries and veins. In a increasing number of operations free transplantations after resection of the head and neck tumors are performed. In advanced tumors postoperative irradiation would be desired as early as possible. The histological changes and the patency of the vessels were investigated. The results indicate that an immediate postoperative irradiation is possible even after an free microvascular transplantation. (author)
