Attempt to control tailings

Creators

Description

There are no fully reclaimed uranium mill or mine waste dumps in the U.S., despite the passage of the Uranium Mill Tailings Radiation Control Act of 1978. The Act stated the findings and purposes of Congress as to uranium mill tailings hazards, defined a remedial action program aimed at inactive or abandoned tailings sites, and clarified the regulatory system for controlling current and future uranium tailings production. Uranium waste and radiation dose standards are to be enforced by DOE, NRC, and EPA
