A review of the UK PWR structural integrity and materials programme

Description

Water reactor related work has been pursued in the UK for many years and this has resulted in the development of comprehensive facilities and expertise to undertake a wide range of R and D. The work is enhanced by participation in collaborative projects such as the ICCGR Group and more recently IPIRG and the IASCC Co-operative Group. Work in support of Sizewell 'B' is represented by well established programmes. The CEGB has in-house activities and the work within the UKAEA ranges from being fully supported by the CEGB to fully supported by the Department of energy. Although the work fully supported by CEGB is plant specific there is an appreciable generic programme with long term objectives. This will be very relevant to Hinkley 'C' and other stations of the future. The paper outlines the structural Integrity and material work by firstly stating the strategy and goals then giving a general review of the programme and technical highlights. The paper concludes with a brief description of the forward programmes. (orig.)
