The surface tension of liquid metals and its temperature dependence

  • 1. AN SSSR, Moscow. Inst. Vysokikh Temperatur

Description

The planar surface of liquid metal is studied in the framework of the density functional theory. The liquid metal is considered as a two -component electron-ion system. The expression for the Helmholz free energy in the consistent gradient expansion is used. The surface tension of alkali metals is calculated from the first principles in a broad temperature range. The calculated values are in a good agreement with experimental data. (author)
