The remote monitoring system for nuclear reactors (KFUe) in Bavaria (2nd stage of development)

The remote monitoring system for nuclear reactors (KFUe) is made up of a variety of technical equipment, such as measuring instruments for on-site and in-plant measurements, equipment for long-distance data transmission, process computers, and a variety of tasks to be performed by the reactor supervisory personnel. Especially in case of incidents or accidents in nuclear power plants, a rapid assessment of consequences, and thus rapid response to prevent radiation hazards, is feasible only through automated data preparation and prompt availability of supervisory personnel, e.g. by an appropriate system of stand-by duty. The Bavarian Pollution Control Office put special emphasis on the recording of meteorological data measured in the vicinity of nuclear power stations. The 1977 report on the performance of meteorological data acquisition has been taken as a basis to decide about the type and equipment of the measuring towers installed or to be installed at the Grafenrheinfeld and Gundremmingen II nuclear power stations.
