Production of a Raman laser at 16 μm
Description
The frequencies conversion of the emission of a TEA CO2 laser by stimulated Raman scattering in hydrogen provides an intense radiation field in the 13 to 17 μm range for laser isotope separation of uranium by the molecular process. The stimulated Raman scattering theory is recalled. The mains parameters involved in this frequency conversion are analysed. They allow to define the spatial and spectral feature of the CO2 laser necessary for the experiment, as well as the parameters of the amplifying cell. The amplifier is a multiple pass cell which allow 80 to 160 m of interaction length in the para-hydrogen at 77 K. Performance of the apparatus and the first experimental results are presented. An output of 240 mJ in 40 ns is obtained at 16 μm for an imput pump energy of 3.4 J

La conversion des frequences emises par un laser CO2 TEA par Raman stimule dans l'hydrogene permet d'obtenir un rayonnement intense dans le domaine de 13 a 17 μm pour la separation isotopique de l'uranium par laser. On fait un rappel theorique sur le Raman stimule; on met en evidence les parametres importants intervenant dans cette conversion de frequence. On definit les caracteristiques spatiales et spectrales du laser CO2 necessaire a l'experience, ainsi que les parametres utiles de la cellule d'amplification. C'est une cuve a reflexions multiples qui permet d'avoir des longueurs d'interaction de 80 a 160 m dans le para-hydrogene a 77 K. On presente les performances de l'ensemble de l'appareillage et on met en evidence les premiers resultats experimentaux. Une energie de 240 mJ en 40 ns est obtenue a 16 μm en sortie d'amplificateur pour une energie de pompe de 3,4 JFiles
