Chemical problems in neutron capture medical treatment

Description
The natural abundance of B-10, which is useful for neutron capture medical treatment, is only 20 percent, accordingly the enrichment of B-10 is required. The basic anion exchange resin method was designed. By using long columns, the enrichment of B-10 to 96 percent was achieved. The study of boron compounds has been made to obtain a substance with good affinity to tumors. 4-boronophenylalanine (4-bpa) was synthesized, and its character was studied. A new method of the chemical analysis of B-10 was developed. The alkali fusion, methylene blue colorimetric analysis was established. (Kato, T.)
