Environmental radiological surveillance program at the 'RACSO' Nuclear Center 1998-2001

Description

Protection of humans and the environment against the risks of the ionizing radiations constitutes one of the main functions of the Peruvian Institute of Nuclear Energy. The Environmental Radiological Surveillance Program (PVRA-CNR) is performed in the influence zone of the RACSO Nuclear Center in order to evaluate the radioactive facilities operation impact. In this matter, radionuclides such as I-131, Te-123, Ir-192, Mn-54, and Co-60 are analyzed. For the atmospheric global fallout evaluation, the levels of Cs-137 and Cs-134 are determined. In this article, the results corresponding to the 1998-2001 period are presented, indicating that up to now there is no a radiological commitment in the ecosystem evaluated
