In situ testing and corrosion monitoring in a geological clay formation

  • 1. Centre d'Etude de l'Energie Nucleaire, Mol (Belgium)
  • 2. Universitaire Instelling Antwerpen (Belgium)

Description

The corrosion rate and mechanism of a number of candidate canister materials, structural materials of the repository and simulated vitrified waste forms will be tested in two environments representative during the storage of radioactive waste in a geological clay formation. These environments are: direct contact with clay and a humid atmosphere loaded with clay extracts. The corrosion experiments will be carried out at ≅ 150C, 500C, 900C and 1700C for total exposure times of 50.000 h. 7 refs.; 10 figs
