Description

The second stage of Project Zirconium, which is being developed is presented. This stage consists of the study of a) a process for the chlorination of ZrO2 to obtain the compound ZrCl4; b) a process for magneisothermic reduction of ZrCl4 to obtain metallic zirconium. This study views as its objective the installation of a pilot plant to produce metallic zirconium in the form of sponge. (Author)

Abstract (Portuguese)

Apresenta-se a segunda etapa do Projeto Zirconio que esta em fase de desenvolvimento. Esta etapa consiste no estudo de: a) um processo de cloracao de ZrO2, obtendo-se o composto ZrCl4; b) um processo de reducao magnesiotermica a partir de ZrCl4 obtendo-se Zirconio Metalico grau nuclear. Este estudo visa a instalacao de uma usina piloto de producao de Zirconio Metalico na forma de esponja. (Autor)
