Absolute yields of 99Mo and 132Te in the spontaneous fission of 252Cf

  • 1. Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Bombay (India). Radiochemistry Div.

Description

Absolute yields of fission products 99Mo and 132Te have been determined in the spontaneous fission of 252Cf using solid state track detector cum gamma ray spectrometric technique. The fission rate on an electrodeposited target of 253Cf was measured by recording the track events on a lexan polycarbonate solid state track detector. The fission products atoms were determined by collecting the fission fragments on a aluminium catcher foil and analysing the catcher foil by direct gamma ray spectrometry using a pre calibrated high resolution hig purity germanium detector. The absolute yields of 99Mo and 132Te are 2.70 ± 0.15 and 1.88 ± 0.17 respectively. The results are compared with the available literature data. (orig.)
