Investigation of quenching and of the distortion of #betta# spectra occurring in the measuring process when liquid scintillation counters are used
Description
For quenches about 30 organic substances are used which are added to liquid scintillators on the basis of toluol/PPO and dioxan/naphtalene/PPO. From a model a modified Stern-Volmer equation is derived governing all quenchers. For investigation of the problem of chemical quenching the energy spectra of 14C-n-hexadecane is used. It is assumed that for 32P, 3H, and possibly 187Re similar results may be obtained. (HP)

Als Quencher dienen etwa 30 organische Substanzen, die in Fluessigszintillatoren auf der Basis Toluol/PPO und Dioxan/Naphtalin/PPO zugesetzt werden. Aus einem Modell wird eine modifizierte Stern-Volmer-Gleichung abgeleitet, der alle Quencher gehorchen. Zur Untersuchung des Problems des chemischen Quenching dienen die #betta#-Energiespektren des 14C-n-Hexadekan. Es wird erwartet, dass fuer 32P, 3H und eventuell 187Re aehnliche Ergebnisse erreichbar sind. (HP)
