Earth formation porosity log using measurement of fast neutron energy spectrum
Description
A method and apparatus for measuring the porosity of earth formations in situ in a borehole is provided. A relatively high intensity continuous or pulsed neutron source irradiates the formation surrounding a borehole with fast neutrons. A pair of detectors, one sensitive to epithermal neutrons and the other sensitive to fast neutrons or to the consequent inelastic gamma rays, each spaced approximately the same distance from the neutron source, generate signals which may be interpreted in terms of the earth formation porosity in accordance with predetermined relationships
