On nature of suppresion of strange particle production in the quark model

  • 1. Gosudarstvennyj Komitet po Ispol'zovaniyu Atomnoj Ehnergii SSSR, Serpukhov. Inst. Fiziki Vysokikh Ehnergij

Description

Experimental data on inclusive reactions show that production of strange particles is suppressed as compared with predictions of the SU(3)-symmetric quark model. It is shown in the present work that this suppression has a natural explanation in framework of the quark-parton description of the hadron interactions. With this in view, the extent to which the strange-particle production is suppressed may be determined from the data on total πN and KN interact cross sections. The values of the cross sections, obtained in Batavia, provide an indication to that the strange/nonstrange inclusive production ratio will increase with the energy, approaching the limit, predicated by the SU(3)-symmetric model
