Measurement of current in high-current relativistic electron beam by its bremsstrahlung

  • 1. Inst. of High-Current Electronics, Tomsk (Russian Federation)

Description

The bremsstrahlung directional diagram of a high-current relativistic beam is determined experimentally. It is shown that if the angle θ between the direction of electron incidence on a collector surface and the γ-quantum radiation direction is about 30-40 degrees, the beam current's oscillogram can be regained from the intensity of the bremsstrahlung signal. The technique was used to determine the beam current in a relativistic diffraction generator, in which the beam current is difficult to measure by the conventional methods (clamp-on ammeter (fluxmeter), shunt) due to plasma generation and the excitation of plasma currents
