Description
The electron probe microanalysis of irradiated nuclear fuel performed at the European Institute for Transuranium Elements is outlined. High performance crystal spectrometers of the CAMECA MS46 analyser are combined with the three lens electron optical system of the modern CAMEBAX. A special detector has been developed which enables good quality electron scanning images to be obtained from highly radioactive materials. Biological shielding, shielding of the spectrometers and prevention of contamination are discussed. (Auth./C.F.)
