EVOLCODE: ADS Combined Neutronics and Isotopic Evolution Simulation System

Description
During the last decade the Accelerator Driven Systems (ADS) appears among the most promising concepts in the field of nuclear waste transmutation. In this context there is a demand of simulation tools for ADS design studies. Computer simulations are an excellent way to investigate the real potential as incinerators of the different current ADS models proposed. The aim of this paper is to present a combined neutronics and isotopic evolution simulation system developed at FACET group at CIEMAT. This procedure, called EVOLCODE, allows performing coupled neutronic and isotopic time evolution calculations, where the neutronics and fuel depletion simulation tools shared all the necessary data automatically. The main physics models included in EVOLCODE relay on some nuclear calculation standard codes: NJOY94, LAHET, MCNP4B and ORIGEN2.1. Flexibility and precision in the way the problems are modeled are the main goals of EVOLCODE. At the present development status, EVOLCODE has been designed and used successfully at a CRAY-T3E parallel computer available at CIEMAT. (author)
