Determination of thorium in irradiated thoria for burn-up determination

Description
Determination of thorium concentration in the dissolver solution of irradiated ThO2, samples is required for the experimental determination of bum-up. The results obtained by employing both the conventionally used complexometric titration with EDTA as well as by using isotope dilution -thermal ionization mass spectrometry (ID-TIMS) with 229Th as a spike are compared. It is shown that ID-TIMS provides the thorium concentration values without any interferences when compared to the complexometric method. (author)
