This guide aims at shedding a light on the content and stakes of small hydroelectricity in isolated sites, and at presenting tools to assess the relevancy of such a solution for electric power production when identifying projects in the specific Guyana context. After some general aspects regarding hydroelectricity and Guyana, and the definition of a small hydroelectric power plant (definition, types and components, fall height and plant and turbine type), a set of sheets describes how to address a hydroelectric project for an isolated site (electric power need, power production potential, stakes and constraints of hydroelectric production, economic and financial aspects). The next set of sheets addresses electric power demand in Guyana isolated sites (demand modelling, actions for energy efficiency). The next set addresses the hydroelectric potential: definition of the electric power production raw potential, assessment of the possible production in function of the available resource, adequacy between production need and potential, case of small isolated hydroelectric installations in Guyana.
