On-line measurement of the linear polarization of a gamma radiation beam with spark chambers

Description
The degree of linear polarization of the coherent bremsstrahlung beam of the Tomsk synchrotron was determined experimentally by analyzing the height distribution of electron-positron pairs in spark chambers situated in the paired-magnetic-spectrometer channel. The chambers operated on-line with an ''Elektronika 100'' electronic computer. The degree of polarization of the beam of γ quanta having an energy 270 MeV is equal to 0.42+-0.08
