  • 1. Ecole Polytechnique Federale, Lausanne (Switzerland)

Description

During the past 18 years, lasers have played an increasingly important role in the diagnostics of laboratory plasmas, in particular those studied for thermonuclear applications. Today, the laser is widely regarded as being the most versatile single tool for making measurements on these plasmas. The authors review the basic principles of the most powerful laser diagnostic technique, viz. Thomson scattering. (Auth.)
