Intense, diffuse hepatic and splenic uptake in 99mTc methylene diphosphonate (MDP) scintigraphy

  • 1. Department of Radiation Oncology, 108 Central Military Hospital, Hanoi (Viet Nam)

Description

Serial cases 99mTc methylene diphosphonate (MDP) scintigraphy incidentally revealed intense, diffuse hepatic and splenic uptake in our center. On occasion, there is incidental detection of soft-tissue uptake may be considered because of different causes. Following some sequences day, the hepatic - splenic uptake persisted in patients who have not any benign/malignant hepatic-splenic lesions on conventional modalities. There are several reasons to describe the mechanism of extra osseous uptake on skeletal scintigraphy. This paper reviews the scintigraphic features of hepatic-splenic uptake and discuss possible reasons for such uptake in practice. (author)
