Construction plan of Genkai Nuclear Power Station Unit 3 and 4

Description

The electric power demand from Kyushu Electric Power Co., Inc. is 9.546 million kW at maximum in fiscal year 1984, and the yearly increase of about 400 MW is expected. In Genkai Nuclear Power Station, No.1 plant started the operation in October, 1975, and No.2 plant started the operation in March, 1981. As to No.3 and No.4 plants, the permission of the alteration of reactor installation was obtained on October 12, 1984. In the construction plan of No.3 and No.4 plants, in order to heighten the reliability, safety and maintainability, to reduce radiation exposure and to improve the economical efficiency, the experience obtained in the construction and operation of Genkai No.1 and No.2 plants and the construction of Sendai No.1 and No.2 is fully utilized, and the items of improvement and standardization in the national project are positively adopted as well as the learning of the TMI accident and the results of joint research by electric power industry. The site for the plants, PWRs of 1180 MWe output, the general layout of the plants and the features of the plants are reported. (Kako, I.)
