The ceramic nuclear fuels
Description
In this review, the in-pile behaviour of LWR (UO2) and LMFBR (U.PuO2) fuels are compared. Common phenomena which take place are described qualitatively and it is shown that differences in behaviour, if any, are essentially due to differences in service temperatures. As ceramic materials, they still raise some problems concerning more the material scientist (thermal conductivity at very high temperature, fission gas release mechanism ...) than the classical ceramist (fabrication)
Abstract (French)
Dans cet article, on compare le comportement en pile des combustibles eau legere (UO2) et rapide (U,PuO2). On decrit qualitativement les phenomenes communs dont ils sont le siege et on montre que les differences de comportement, lorsqu'elles existent, sont essentiellement dues a leur difference de temperature de fonctionnement. En tant que materiaux ceramiques, ils continuent a poser certains problemes plutot au physicien du solide (conductibilite thermique a tres haute temperature, mecanisme de degagement des gaz de fission ...) qu'au ceramiste traditionnel (fabrication)Additional details
