The velocity ellipsoid of RR Lyrae variable stars

Creators

Description

The velocity ellipsoid of RR Lyrae stars is computed from radial velocities alone and again from radial velocities combined with proper motions. The ellipsoid is found to have a long axis in the direction from the star to the Galactic Centre. The bearing of the inequality of these axes on the distribution of RR Lyrae stars in the Galaxy is briefly discussed. (author)
