Composite stellarator with three-dimensional axis and helical windings
- 1. I. V. Kurchatov Institute of Atomic Energy, Moscow
Description
The plasma equilibrium and stability are studied for a stellarator with a helical axis in helical external fields. Twisting the axis of an ordinary stellarator provides an additional opportunity for substantially increasing the limiting value of β = 2p-bar/B2 (by a factor of two or three). The equilibrium configuration is described analytically by a method of inversion of variables through an expansion in small parameters
